Cystic Acne
Cystic acne – it’s a curse but not insurmountable
There is not doubt that cystic acne is the most sever form of acne which, unfortunately, affects more and more people. There is no reason or factor responsible for this type of acne’s appearance, or at least such haven’t been discovered yet.
Anyway, it’s a fact that cystic acne could ruin the life of a person. The point is that this form of acne usually affects huge percentage of the skin on the face, chest and back. Averagely, 85% of the skin is affected, 70% of the chest and around 40% of the back (mainly the upper part of the back).
Unsurprisingly, this form of acne is called that way because “cysts” are formed within the affected area. These cysts are difficult to be confused with anything else since they are characterized as soft lumps under the skin which are often filled with fluid. Anyway, the worst thing about the cystic acne is not only the fact that it is the most painful and visible form of acne but also that it is the most difficult for treatment. Actually, even if the redness and cysts are removed, there are ugly scars which bother the patients until the rest of their life. But it is still considered great success if only scars remain on the face since removing the cysts and redness is extremely difficult also.
But what causes this awful disease? Are there any risking factors? Actually, dermatologists claim that cystic acne is not aroused by any different factors or bacteria. The factors considered responsible for the appearance of this form of acne are exactly the same like those causing the other forms. These are oily skin (very spread among teenagers), too many dead skin cells, and large amounts of the bacteria causing acne (usually caused by bad hygiene). But there comes another logical question: when cystic acne appears instead of another, lighter, form of acne. Basically, the main reason pointed out for cystic acne’s appearance is infecting of adjoining follicles. But it is also true that some people are more favorable disposed to this bad form of acne than others- so genetics also plays its crucial role!
However, the most important thing which everybody needs to know about the cystic form of acne is that it should never be allowed to ruin a person’s life. Unfortunately, there are many people who quit the fight thinking that successful treatment will never be found out. But these are nonsense! Many people have already been cured as they have been patient and tried all the stuff possible. There are really plenty of methods used- oral antibiotics or contraceptives (when women are affected), isotretinoin or even surgery. It is more than sure that at least one of those will affect the cystic acne, especially the surgery. However, it should be considered as the last option, when everything else has been given a try.
